About

Jerrol A. Crouter is Of Counsel at Drummond Woodsum in Portland, Maine, and focuses on mediation, arbitration, higher education, and litigation matters. After decades as a civil trial attorney, he now serves as a mediator and arbitrator in commercial, construction, employment, real estate, probate, family law, malpractice, and personal injury disputes. He also advises higher education institutions on student discipline, Title IX, employment, tenure, and other evolving institutional issues.

Jerrol earned a B.A. from Colby College in 1978 and a J.D. from George Washington School of Law in 1983. His education provided the foundation for a long career in civil trial practice and dispute resolution. That background supports his ability to evaluate evidence, assess trial risks, analyze contractual and statutory issues, and help parties understand the legal and practical consequences of continued litigation, settlement, mediation, or arbitration.

Jerrol has extensive civil trial experience in federal and state courts and has tried jury and non-jury cases involving employment discrimination, antitrust claims, commercial torts, construction disputes, contract disputes, and patent infringement. As an arbitrator, he evaluates evidence and issues reasoned decisions. As a mediator, he works with parties and counsel to assess case strengths, weaknesses, and litigation risks. He is also qualified to serve as a Title IX hearing officer or decision-maker.

Jerrol A. Crouter is ranked by Chambers & Partners in Maine for Litigation: General Commercial and has been recognized by New England Super Lawyers in Alternative Dispute Resolution. His practice combines courtroom experience with neutral dispute-resolution work and higher-education counseling. That combination allows him to address disputes from the perspectives of trial strategy, negotiation, institutional risk, and decision making while helping parties pursue fair and workable outcomes.
