Jennifer Davenport

Jennifer Davenport serves as the Attorney General of New Jersey, assuming the role in February 2026 following unanimous Senate confirmation. As the state’s chief law enforcement officer, she oversees thousands of officers and staff, guiding efforts that shape public safety, civil rights enforcement, and consumer protection across New Jersey.

Jennifer earned her Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law after completing her undergraduate studies at DeSales University. Her education set the stage for a career grounded in public service, legal leadership, and a deep understanding of the justice system at multiple levels.

Jennifer previously served as First Assistant Attorney General and Principal Law Enforcement Advisor, where she worked closely with agencies and prosecutors statewide. Her work focused on strengthening public safety initiatives, including efforts targeting gun violence and human trafficking, while supporting coordinated law enforcement strategies.

Jennifer spent seven years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey, including serving as Chief of the General Crimes Unit. In that role, she supervised prosecutions, mentored new attorneys, and handled complex cases involving organized crime and other serious offenses.

Jennifer has also held key roles within law enforcement agencies, including serving as Division Counsel to the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration. Her work there included addressing major drug-related challenges, including the fentanyl crisis, and supporting federal enforcement efforts.

Jennifer also has experience in the private sector, serving in senior legal and compliance roles at PSEG. Her background also includes work at national law firms and a federal judicial clerkship, giving her a broad perspective that informs her leadership today.

Jennifer Davenport continues to lead the Department of Law and Public Safety, focusing on protecting communities, strengthening enforcement efforts, and addressing the evolving legal and public safety challenges facing New Jersey.
