Jeffrey M. Krueger

Jeffrey M. Krueger is a partner in the Employee Benefits practice group, with offices in Portland and Salt Lake City. His work focuses on advising clients on retirement and benefit plans, including design, drafting, and administration, helping organizations manage complex requirements and support their workforce.

Jeff earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University School of Law in 1999. He received his J.D. in 1996 from the same school and was named to the Order of the Coif. He holds an A.B. in History, with honors, 1993, and is a Phi Beta Kappa.

Jeff designs and advises on tax-qualified retirement plans, including defined benefit, cash balance, profit-sharing, 401(k), and 401(m), and money purchase pension plans. He also works with employee stock ownership plans and helps clients manage plan operations and compliance with applicable tax rules.

Jeff also advises on nonqualified deferred compensation plans, cafeteria plans, and welfare benefit plans. His work includes helping employers address tax and fiduciary issues related to employee benefits, ensuring that plans comply with legal requirements and operate effectively for both employers and plan participants.

Jeff supports clients with mergers and spin-offs of retirement plans and advises on multiple-employer plans. He works with employers on ESOPs and related transactions, and helps update and restate deferred compensation plans, including compliance with Code Section 409A and related regulatory standards.

Jeff has represented clients in major matters, including the termination of the Timber Operators Council Retirement Plan and a $245 million pension risk transfer covering thousands of participants. His work spans the healthcare and timber and forest products industries, supporting both large and complex benefit structures.
