Jamie Clausen is a Seattle estate planning lawyer who founded Phinney Estate Law in 2007 to provide affordable, values-based legal services. She works with clients on estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianship, elder law, mediation, and conflict coaching. She also serves as a mediator and collaborative attorney in probate and elder law disputes. Her practice emphasizes thoughtful planning, practical problem-solving, and reducing conflict for individuals and families throughout the process.
Jamie earned her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and her M.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington, Jackson School of International Studies. She also completed a postgraduate certificate in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University and earned her B.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington. Her education supports a practice shaped by legal analysis, public service, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving for clients in complex matters.
Jamie began working in estate law in 2005 through pro bono service with King County Volunteer Attorneys for Persons with HIV/AIDS. She previously worked as a litigation associate at Cozen O’Connor and as an attorney advisor for the US Department of Justice. She also gained experience with nonprofit legal organizations handling immigration, public benefits, and family law matters. She continues to devote part of her practice to pro bono service.
Jamie Clausen is active in professional and community service related to probate, elder law, and collaborative practice. She belongs to Washington State Bar Association and King County Bar Association sections addressing probate and elder law. She has served as Treasurer and former Chair of the King County Bar Association Collaborative Law Section. Her honors include a Rising Star Award, pro bono recognition, and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project Amicus Award.
