About
James T. Egan is a partner at Epperson & Owens whose practice focuses on medical malpractice defense. He is experienced in each phase of medical malpractice litigation and has helped defend multiple cases through defense verdicts at trial. His practice includes professional licensing and privileging matters, giving him experience with disputes involving medical care, professional credentials, litigation procedure, and the evidentiary issues that arise in health care cases.
James earned Bachelor’s degrees in English and Political Science from the University of Utah. His literature thesis received the Honors College’s best thesis award, and the College of Humanities selected him as its convocation speaker and exemplary student. He later earned his J.D. magna cum laude from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 2014, serving on the law review and Jessup International Moot Court team.
James joined Epperson & Owens in February 2016 because of a longstanding interest in medicine and health care. As the law school’s first Nelson Galbraith Fellow, he spent his first 18 months as an attorney working with the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center on cases involving potential wrongful convictions. That early work added intensive factual and legal review experience before his current focus on medical malpractice defense.
James T. Egan combines trial-oriented medical malpractice defense with professional licensing and privileging work. His academic record, law review service, moot-court participation, and innocence-center fellowship reflect substantial training in legal research and advocacy. He continues to handle disputes where medical facts, professional standards, evidentiary records, and litigation strategy must be evaluated carefully from the beginning of a case through possible trial.
