James earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Wake Forest University, graduating cum laude. Before private practice, he served as Chief of the Organized Crime Section at the US Department of Justice. He supervised major investigations, RICO matters, pleadings, and trial strategy involving regional, national, and international criminal cases across many federal enforcement priorities and sensitive public matters.

James also served as an Assistant US Attorney in Maryland, where he prosecuted white-collar and criminal cases. His work included major investigations, capital matters, and service on the Attorney General’s Capital Review Committee. He later advised on gang statutes in Maryland through a governor-appointed task force. His public service record gives clients practical insight into charging decisions, evidence review, negotiation strategy, and courtroom risk.

James M. Trusty has been recognized by Chambers USA for white collar crime and government investigations. His honors include the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award, Federal Prosecutor of the Year, and other prosecution awards.
