J. Michael Montgomery

Michael Montgomery is a Managing Member at Robinson Gray based in Columbia, South Carolina. He focuses his litigation practice on premises liability, automobile and trucking torts, insurance coverage, and products liability. He also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and leads its Professional Development program.

Michael earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2006. He also received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Wofford College in 2003. His academic background supports his strong foundation in litigation and legal analysis across a wide range of matters.

Michael represents clients in complex litigation matters across several industries. His work includes defending business owners in commercial automobile and trucking cases, representing state agencies in administrative disputes, and handling premises liability claims for retailers and gas stations, providing careful, strategic legal guidance.

Michael also has experience in construction litigation, medical malpractice defense, and cases involving administrative agencies. He works closely with clients to manage risk and resolve disputes. Michael has held several leadership and service roles. He is a past president of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court and is a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association and the International Association of Defense Counsel, supporting professional growth and legal excellence.
