J. Michael McGarity

J. Michael McGarity is the founder and a partner at The McGarity Group in Buford, Georgia. He represents individuals and businesses in personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, civil litigation, family law, and business disputes. His work includes car and truck accident claims, brain injuries, complex negligence matters, and contested commercial cases. Clients rely on his practical approach to evaluating problems, preparing cases, and pursuing effective solutions through negotiation or trial.

McGarity earned his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1979 after receiving a B.S. in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1976. He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office. This combination of legal education, management training, and prosecutorial experience provided a strong foundation for analyzing evidence, understanding business concerns, and presenting complex matters in court.

McGarity has tried well over one hundred jury trials and hundreds of bench trials. His experience includes wrongful death claims, medical malpractice cases, personal injury litigation, multi-party disputes, felony criminal trials, and real estate litigation. He also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General representing the Gwinnett County Child Support Enforcement Division and has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Georgia as a Special Master in disciplinary matters.

J. Michael McGarity has received an AV peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell since 1987 and has been selected to Georgia Super Lawyers for many years. He is a former president of the Gwinnett County Bar Association and has served in professional, educational, and community leadership roles. His broad courtroom experience and problem-solving approach help clients address serious injuries, family disputes, and complex civil matters with focused, practical legal guidance.
