About
J. Matthew Szymanski is a director and owner of Gammon & Grange, P.C. whose practice includes export controls and other trade compliance, nonprofit and commercial matters, constitutional and civil rights issues, and general litigation and consulting. His career combines private practice with federal government, congressional, corporate, and international law experience. He has worked extensively on US-China business and policy matters and on legal issues affecting organizations operating across borders.
Szymanski earned a Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center, a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Regent University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts from Oral Roberts University. His education is complemented by legal, policy, and corporate experience involving international trade and cross-border operations. This background supports his work advising on export controls, commercial matters, nonprofit issues, civil rights, and disputes that intersect with government policy or international business activity.
Szymanski began his legal career in a US Attorney’s Office and later served as an attorney with the US Department of Labor. He practiced at Gammon & Grange before serving as special counsel and chief of staff for the House Small Business Committee and the US-China Interparliamentary Exchange. From 2007 to 2014, he worked in China for Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, managing export compliance, government relations, public relations, and corporate social responsibility.
J. Matthew Szymanski returned to Gammon & Grange in 2018 and became a director and owner in 2019. He also serves as a senior adviser with the US-Asia Institute and manages its Szymanski Rule of Law Program. His practice draws on litigation, federal policy, international corporate work, and trade compliance experience to advise clients on cross-border regulatory concerns, nonprofit and commercial issues, and disputes involving complex legal or governmental considerations.
