J. Kent Rutledge

J. Kent Rutledge is a member of Lathrop & Rutledge, P.C. in Cheyenne and has practiced with the firm since 1974. He handles a broad civil litigation practice with concentrations in professional liability defense, commercial litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith disputes, products liability, medical malpractice, personal injury, and other civil matters. His long courtroom career includes work throughout Wyoming’s state and federal court systems.

Kent earned a J.D. from the University of Wyoming, College of Law in 1974 and a B.S. from the University of Wyoming in 1969. His Wyoming education provided the academic foundation for a career devoted to trial work, appellate issues, insurance disputes, and business-related litigation. Decades of practice have added extensive familiarity with Wyoming procedure, evidentiary issues, and the demands of complex civil cases.

Kent practices in federal and state courts in Wyoming and is admitted in the US District Court for the District of Colorado and the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. His work spans defense matters and disputes involving professional services, commercial relationships, products, insurance obligations, and injuries. He has also remained active in professional organizations connected to trial and defense practice.

J. Kent Rutledge is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1997. He has served as Wyoming state chairman for the Defense Research Institute and remains affiliated with state and local bar organizations. His sustained litigation practice reflects extensive experience evaluating claims, preparing cases, and advocating in significant civil disputes.
