Ian C. Butler

Ian C. Butler is a partner in Glastonbury, Connecticut, who advises individuals and institutional clients on business, real estate, intellectual property, and cannabis law. His practice covers business formation, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, commercial financing, real estate transactions, leases, zoning, and permitting. He also assists clients with trademark and copyright applications, trade secrets, intellectual property agreements, and licensing matters connected to business growth and operations.

Ian earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, cum laude, from Central Connecticut State University in 2014. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2017, where he focused on business law and intellectual property law. He earned an Intellectual Property Certificate, received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award, and served as Online Publications Editor of the Connecticut Law Review.

Ian represents medical and recreational cannabis businesses and entrepreneurs through the formation, operation, and exit stages of their ventures. His experience includes assisting medical marijuana dispensary applicants with licensing, leasing, zoning, and entity structure. He has also served as local counsel to cannabis investment companies in multimillion-dollar transactions involving Connecticut producers and dispensaries. Before entering private practice, he worked as a law clerk in the corporate legal departments of two Fortune 500 companies based in Connecticut.
