Heather L. Fields

Heather L. Fields is a shareholder at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. and chairs the firm’s Hospitals and Health Care Systems group. Based in Milwaukee and Chicago, she advises health care organizations on regulatory, transactional, and compliance matters. Her practice includes fraud and abuse issues, internal investigations, HIPAA compliance, clinical research compliance, patient safety, peer review, medical staff matters, and corporate compliance programs. She also counsels clients on health care provider relationships and operational risk.

Fields earned her J.D., with honors, from DePaul University College of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif, served on the DePaul Law Review, and published in the Journal of Health and Hospital Law. She earned her B.B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan. Her academic training supports a practice that requires careful analysis of health care regulation, organizational governance, compliance obligations, and complex provider relationships.

Fields has spent three decades assisting clients with investigations, transactions, and compliance concerns. Her experience includes reviewing physician contracts, medical director agreements, professional services arrangements, call-coverage agreements, and medical office leases. She also helps clients design and assess corporate compliance programs, address clinical research requirements, investigate potential fraud and abuse, prepare self-disclosures to the Office of Inspector General, and handle quality-of-care, peer review, and medical staff proceedings.

Heather L. Fields is Certified in Healthcare Compliance and is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional. She has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for Health Care Law, Chambers USA for health care work, and Wisconsin Super Lawyers, and was named Best Lawyers’ 2014 Milwaukee Health Care Law “Lawyer of the Year.” Fields also serves in health care and community organizations, bringing practical in-house and outside counsel experience to clients facing operational, regulatory, and compliance challenges.
