About
Graham R. Carl is an attorney at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, P.L.C. whose practice centers on litigation, medical malpractice and long-term care defense, appellate advocacy, and federal court matters. He is particularly experienced in legal research and writing, including pretrial and post-trial motion practice. Clients rely on his careful analysis and clear written advocacy when addressing complex procedural, evidentiary, and substantive issues.
Graham earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2014 with highest distinction. He was elected to the Order of the Coif and received the ALI/CLE Scholarship and Leadership Award. He previously earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics, with a minor in business, from Loras College in 2011. This academic background supports his structured approach to legal analysis, risk evaluation, and persuasive advocacy.
Before joining the firm, Graham completed a two-year federal judicial clerkship with the Honorable C.J. Williams of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. That experience provided direct insight into federal procedure, judicial decision-making, motion practice, and the development of clear legal arguments. His current work includes civil litigation, construction matters, mediation and arbitration, medical malpractice defense, appeals, and other disputes requiring detailed research and strategic writing.
Graham R. Carl co-chairs the firm’s Appellate Practice Group and is affiliated with the Iowa State Bar Association’s Health Law and Litigation Sections and the Linn County Bar Association. He was selected to the Great Plains Rising Stars list from 2022 through 2024.
