George J. Berens

George J. Berens is a dedicated attorney who focuses on workers’ compensation, PERA, MSRS benefits claims, and personal injury law. Since beginning his legal career in 2009, he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, giving him broad experience in injury-related disputes and benefit claims across Minnesota.

George received his Bachelor’s degree in history from Ripon College in 2003. He later earned his Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline College of Law in 2009. Since December 2009, he has been a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association, maintaining active involvement in the legal community.

George spent several years representing employers and insurers in workers’ compensation defense matters at two of Minnesota’s most prominent workers’ compensation defense firms. In 2022, he transitioned to representing injured workers and petitioners. This dual perspective allows him to anticipate defense strategies and guide clients through contested or denied claims with clarity and confidence.

George also handles claims involving Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) and Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS) benefits. He frequently works with first responders, union members, law enforcement, and firefighters seeking duty disability benefits or support after serious workplace injuries. His understanding of benefit systems helps clients pursue the compensation they need.

George has a long history of public service. Before becoming an attorney, he served in the United States Peace Corps in Paraguay, South America. During law school, he volunteered with the Minnesota Justice Foundation, providing pro bono legal services as a student certified to practice law in Minnesota and participating in foreign legal training in Chile through the Santiago Public Defender’s Office. He is fluent in Spanish.
