Gary Dickey

Gary Dickey is a founding member and managing attorney of Dickey, Campbell & Sahag Law Firm, P.L.C. in Des Moines. His practice focuses primarily on criminal defense, appellate law, personal injury, civil rights, government affairs, employment and labor, and administrative law. He handles complex criminal and civil issues and has argued cases before the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and federal appellate courts.

Gary earned a B.S.B.A., magna cum laude, from Drake University with study in corporate finance and insurance. He later received his J.D. with high honors from Drake University Law School, where he participated in the law review, served as Student Bar Association president, and received advocacy-related recognition. After law school, he clerked for United States District Judge Harold Vietor.

Gary later served as general counsel and policy director for Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson. His work included legal and policy responsibilities within state government, and he helped draft Executive Order 42 concerning restoration of voting rights. In private practice, he has handled numerous state and federal appeals, complex criminal cases, regulatory disputes, civil rights matters, and litigation involving public-law issues.
