Before entering the legal profession, he spent 18 years working as an engineer, gaining valuable technical knowledge and industry experience. He later pursued legal studies and received his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2009. His education in both engineering and law allows him to understand complex technologies while providing effective legal solutions for clients.

Garrick has worked with a wide range of intellectual property matters throughout his legal career. Before joining Sanders Pianowski LLP in 2021, he was a partner at a boutique intellectual property law firm in South Bend. There, he handled the prosecution of utility and design patents, represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement disputes, and prepared licensing and settlement agreements. He also assisted clients with trademark applications and trademark opposition proceedings.

Garrick is admitted to practice law in Indiana and Michigan, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Northern District, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
