Evan Barquist

Evan Barquist is a partner at Montroll, Oettinger, & Barquist P.C. in Burlington, Vermont. He is a general practice litigator representing clients in criminal and traffic defense, civil litigation, appeals, and real estate lawsuits and disputes. His practice includes landlord and tenant disputes, land use litigation, and neighbor disputes. He approaches cases with the understanding that each situation requires consideration of its own facts and potential solutions.

Evan earned a JD from New York Law School in 2010 and a BA in Theatre from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in 2006. During law school, he was Executive Editor of the Media Law and Policy journal. Editing and legal study involve careful attention to language and argument. Those skills are useful when evaluating the record, preparing written submissions, and presenting a client’s position in contested proceedings.

Evan moved to Vermont after law school and clerked for the Chittenden County State’s Attorney’s Office. He then established a solo practice before joining his present firm in January 2018. His appellate experience includes successful representation in two notable Vermont Supreme Court cases identified by the firm. Appeals require focused analysis of the proceedings below and an explanation of why the governing law supports the requested result.

Evan Barquist’s background combines independent practice with representation across criminal, civil, and property disputes. His community work has included service with Global Campuses Foundation and volunteer youth sports coaching. He brings an individualized perspective to matters involving contested rights and responsibilities.
