Eric Hecker is a top trial and appellate lawyer. He has vast experience in civil rights, commercial disputes, and constitutional law. Mr. Hecker, a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, served as Articles Editor of the Michigan Law Review. He was elected to the Order of the Coif. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.
After law school, he clerked for three judges: Judge David Tatel, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit; Judge Thelton Henderson, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California; and Judge Constance Baker Motley, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Hecker represents clients in landmark civil rights cases. They involve employment and housing discrimination, police misconduct, and prisoners’ rights. A notable achievement is a $53 million settlement for NYC detainees in a class action over unlawful solitary confinement.
So is a $2.9 million settlement in a federal housing discrimination case. He has also excelled in commercial litigation. He has resolved disputes in partnerships, IP claims, and complex contracts.
Mr. Hecker is widely recognized for his litigation success and thought leadership. He taught election law at Cardozo School of Law. He has spoken widely on redistricting and campaign finance reform. Major legal publications have featured his work. Since 2009, he has been named a “Super Lawyer” for civil rights and business litigation.
Mr. Hecker is licensed in New York and several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. His strategy and commitment to justice have made him a top advocate for those with complex legal challenges.
