Emily earned her B.A. from Augustana University in 2008 and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies in 2010. After gaining hands-on experience in the legal field, she pursued a J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law, graduating with honors in 2017. During law school, she served as co-president of the Trial Team, class president, and the Note & Comment Editor of the South Dakota Law Review, where she was also published.

She began her legal journey as a paralegal, gaining valuable experience in employment law and litigation.
