Emily M. Chilson is a partner and registered patent attorney at Andrus Intellectual Property Law, concentrating her practice on patent and trademark prosecution, enforcement, and strategic counseling at both domestic and international levels. Her work supports innovation from product development through protection and commercialization.

Emily earned her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Marquette University Law School, where she was the Technology Editor of the Marquette Law Review. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, cum laude, from Northwestern University. Her engineering background supports her legal analysis of complex mechanical inventions.

Emily regularly advises clients on patentability, infringement, clearance, and IP strategy. Her work spans industries such as internal combustion engines, boating systems, corrugated board machinery, wearable apparel, pumps, and retail merchandising products. She also helps clients navigate design-around strategies to avoid third-party IP.

In addition to prosecution and opinion work, Emily drafts and negotiates a variety of IP-related contracts, including LOIs, MOUs, joint development agreements, and sourcing contracts. Her ability to align legal protections with business objectives makes her a valued strategic advisor throughout the product life cycle.

Emily M. Chilson stays current with evolving design patent laws and is active in trade dress enforcement trends.
