E. Desmond (Des) Hogan is a nationally recognized litigator known for resolving high-stakes disputes at early stages, at trial, and on appeal. His work spans complex class actions and individual matters involving antitrust, RICO, consumer protection, ERISA, and commercial claims in federal and state courts nationwide.
Des completed his undergraduate studies with a B.A. from Allegheny College, building a foundation in analytical reasoning and advocacy. He later earned his J.D. from Howard University School of Law, summa cum laude, valedictorian, developing advanced litigation skills and a strong commitment to fairness, precision, and disciplined legal writing.
Des has led and defended major national class actions, including cases alleging ERISA violations, antitrust conspiracies, and consumer claims. His experience includes securing dismissals, defeating class certification, and prevailing on summary judgment, as well as achieving decisive results in jury trials and appellate proceedings.
Des regularly represents clients before federal trial and appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals. He has also guided organizations through congressional investigations involving health care, data security, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and public corruption, offering steady counsel in highly scrutinized matters.
Des is deeply committed to pro bono service and civil rights advocacy. He played a key role in the exoneration of the Norfolk 4 and led successful litigation on behalf of more than 100 Black U.S. Secret Service Special Agents. His leadership includes service with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
