Doug Hazelton

Doug Hazelton is a DWI and criminal defense attorney who represents clients throughout Virginia. He also holds licenses in Minnesota and Wisconsin. For more than thirty years, he has handled DWI and criminal cases involving assault, theft, sex crimes, and drug offenses. His practice focuses on defending people facing charges that may affect their freedom, license, record, employment, and future in court proceedings, trials, and administrative hearings across Virginia jurisdictions.

Hazelton earned his undergraduate degree from Antioch College in Ohio. He earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He has attended the National College for DUI Defense program at Harvard Law School and became a member of the College. His education and continued training support a defense practice centered on courtroom advocacy, forensic knowledge, DWI law, criminal evidence, constitutional protections, and trial strategy development.

Hazelton has built a career around DWI defense, forensic alcohol testing, and criminal litigation. He completed the Borkenstein Course at Indiana University, which teaches alcohol testing science. He is a certified Intoxilyzer and DataMaster operator and is trained in NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. He wrote the Minnesota DWI Law Handbook and frequently lectures on DUI/DWI topics across the United States to lawyers, judges, and defense groups on litigation strategy.
