About
Diontre Thomas is a Family Law Attorney at Genus Law Group, where he represents clients in divorce, child custody, support, and other family-related matters. His approach focuses on practical, fair, and lasting solutions while recognizing the emotional challenges families can face during legal disputes. Diontre brings negotiation and courtroom skills developed through prior criminal law experience. He works closely with clients, listens to their concerns, and develops strategies designed to protect their interests throughout family law proceedings in New Mexico.
Diontre earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University’s (SMU) Dedman School of
Law, and his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Northwestern State University. During law school, he participated in legal externships and the Criminal Defense Clinic, gaining practical experience with real-world legal matters. As an undergraduate, he balanced collegiate football with academics and regularly earned honor-roll recognition. His education and early practical training gave him a foundation in legal analysis, advocacy, discipline, and client service before he entered professional legal practice.
Diontre began his legal career at the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office in Texas, where he focused on criminal law and trial preparation. He later joined the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office in New Mexico, handling a range of criminal cases while strengthening his negotiation and trial skills. This prosecutorial background exposed him to complex disputes, evidentiary issues, and high-pressure legal proceedings. He now applies that experience when helping families resolve sensitive and contested family law matters throughout New Mexico.
Diontre Thomas has a commitment to legal practice that developed during an internship with the Natchitoches District Attorney’s Office in Louisiana, where he gained early exposure to the justice system. Today, he uses his background in criminal law to approach family disputes with confidence, preparation, and professionalism. He emphasizes listening carefully, understanding each client’s goals, and working toward amicable resolutions. Diontre is licensed to practice law exclusively in New Mexico and continues to represent families navigating challenging legal transitions with care and focused advocacy.
