Dick DeGuerin

Dick DeGuerin is a Houston criminal defense attorney with more than five decades of courtroom experience. His practice focuses on complex state and federal criminal matters, including white-collar investigations, serious felonies, and capital cases. He represents individuals, business leaders, public officials, and other clients facing significant criminal allegations. His career includes numerous high-profile trials and investigations, along with extensive experience developing defense strategies for cases involving substantial legal, financial, and reputational consequences.

Dick earned an LL.B. from the University of Texas School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Texas. He began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office before moving into criminal defense practice. His early prosecution experience provided firsthand knowledge of how criminal cases are investigated and presented, while his later defense work developed the trial, negotiation, and strategic skills used throughout his long career.

Dick has represented clients in nationally prominent criminal matters, including Tom DeLay, Robert Durst, David Koresh, and former US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. His experience ranges from white-collar prosecutions to murder and other serious criminal charges in state and federal courts. He has secured acquittals and other significant results in complex cases and has represented clients during investigations, trials, appeals, and regulatory enforcement matters requiring extensive preparation and courtroom advocacy.

Dick DeGuerin is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is admitted before Texas state and federal courts, several US Courts of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court. He has received lifetime achievement and criminal defense awards from Texas legal organizations and has been recognized nationally for trial advocacy. He also serves as an adjunct professor of criminal law at the University of Texas School of Law and remains active in numerous trial and criminal defense organizations.
