Derek W. Kaczmarek

Derek W. Kaczmarek is a partner and co-founder of Kaczmarek & Jojola PLLC, a tax litigation firm with a Scottsdale office. He represents individuals, businesses, trusts, and estates in disputes with the IRS and state or local taxing authorities. His work includes audits, collections, administrative controversies, litigation, and other tax enforcement matters for clients located across more than 35 states and in foreign countries.

Kaczmarek earned a J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law Bloomington in 2003 and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2005. His advanced tax education supports a practice centered on federal, state, and local tax disputes. He is certified as a tax law specialist by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization and has held leadership roles within the Arizona tax bar.

Kaczmarek began working for the IRS as a trial attorney in 2005 and later served as a senior trial attorney in Phoenix through 2012. During that period, he handled hundreds of Tax Court cases and served as lead counsel in more than 40 trials. His government work included matters involving fraud audits, property seizures, innocent spouse issues, international tax questions, and cases with potential criminal-tax implications.

He has chaired the Tax Section of the State Bar of Arizona and has served on the Board of Legal Specialization.
