About
Deborah Buccina is Of Counsel at Monaghan Leahy, LLP in Portland, Maine whose practice focuses on personal injury trial work, workers’ compensation, mediation, and arbitration. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury claims and also represents employers before the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board. Her practice includes courtroom advocacy, management of self-insured employer concerns, and alternative dispute resolution.
Buccina earned a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 1981 and a B.A., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Colby College in 1977. Her legal career began in prosecution, where she developed substantial courtroom and jury-trial experience. This background supports Buccina’s legal analysis and problem solving in personal injury and workers’ compensation litigation, including work that requires close attention to detailed facts, governing rules, and practical consequences.
Buccina’s experience includes service as an Assistant District Attorney in York County from 1981 to 1985 and as Deputy District Attorney in 1985, followed by a long civil trial practice. Buccina has tried numerous personal injury matters, handled workers’ compensation issues for employers, and expanded her practice to mediation and arbitration to help parties resolve disputes by agreement. Through these matters, Buccina helps clients assess legal options, manage risk, and move through transactions, disputes, administrative processes, or litigation as the situation requires.
Deborah Buccina is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has held leadership and mentoring roles within Maine’s legal community. She also speaks on Maine workers’ compensation law and related issues for insurance and business audiences. In serving injured clients, defendants, and employers, Buccina brings practical judgment and subject-matter knowledge to the issues presented. Buccina helps injured parties, defendants, and employers address claims through litigation or alternative dispute resolution with advice grounded in the specific facts and legal framework of each matter.
