About

Dayne Phillips is a South Carolina criminal defense lawyer at Price Benowitz LLP who represents clients in serious trial and appellate matters. He handles cases involving homicide, attempted murder, drug trafficking, burglary, criminal sexual conduct, domestic violence, DUI, and other felony and misdemeanor charges. He also represents clients in appeals and professional license defense matters. His background includes numerous felony jury trials, successful appellate arguments, and case results involving dismissals, reversals, and not-guilty verdicts. He approaches each matter with close client communication, detailed preparation, and a willingness to challenge government evidence and prosecution strategies.

Dayne earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 2007 and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2010. During law school, he clerked for criminal and death penalty defense attorney John Delgado. That experience included assisting with murder trials and other high-profile cases, which strengthened his commitment to criminal defense. He later completed advanced training through the National Criminal Defense College in 2015 and the National Forensic College in 2017.

Dayne began his legal career as an Assistant Appellate Defender with the South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense. He managed appeals involving murder, drug trafficking, burglary, and felony DUI convictions. He later served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Eleventh Circuit, defending clients against a broad range of criminal accusations. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2011, the US Supreme Court in 2014, and federal courts in 2015.

Dayne Phillips has held leadership roles within South Carolina’s criminal defense community, including serving as president of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2018. He has also served as South Carolina State Delegate for the National College for DUI Defense and helped found the South Carolina Actual Innocence Justice Center. His recognitions include Super Lawyers Rising Stars selections from 2017 through 2024 and inclusion in the 2026 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for criminal defense.
