David Payma is a committed and experienced criminal defense attorney who leads the criminal law division at Texas Defenders. He has practiced in counties throughout Texas, including Dallas, Collin, Tarrant, and Denton. He has successfully handled hundreds of cases and is known for securing dismissals through diligent, personalized legal representation.
David earned his undergraduate degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. After serving in the City of Dallas Mayor and Council office, where he was awarded the President’s Gold Volunteer Award, he pursued his legal education at Texas A&M University School of Law in Fort Worth, graduating in 2014 with his Juris Doctor degree. He clerked with the Texas Attorney General’s Office and private law firms during law school.
After graduation, David built his legal foundation at several firms focused on criminal defense, personal injury, and general litigation. This diverse experience gave him a broad perspective on the law and a sharp understanding of courtroom dynamics and client needs in various legal scenarios.
David’s memberships include the State Bar of Texas, the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. These affiliations reflect his ongoing commitment to legal excellence and professional development within the Texas legal community.
