David M. Pillers

David M. Pillers is a shareholder and president of Pillers & Richmond, serving clients from the firm’s DeWitt and Clinton, Iowa, offices. With more than 25 years of experience, he focuses on estate planning and probate, real estate, and business law for individuals, families, property owners, and business clients across Iowa and Illinois. His practice includes wills, trusts, probate administration, property transactions, business formation, succession planning, and related legal guidance.

Pillers earned his Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law, where he received academic honors. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Business from Valparaiso University. His legal and business education provides a strong foundation for evaluating estate, property, and commercial issues. This background supports his ability to explain legal options clearly, identify practical risks, and structure solutions that reflect each client’s personal or business objectives.

His experience extends beyond transactional matters and includes substantial civil and criminal litigation work. Early in his career, Pillers completed a legal internship with the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office and held legislative research positions with the US Senate Judiciary Subcommittee and US Senator Charles Grassley. After returning to the region, he worked on murder and other felony cases, developing broad trial experience while also handling family, employment, municipal, and other civil matters.

David M. Pillers has served as City Attorney for Grand Mound since 2007 and has advised other Iowa municipalities on legal issues. He is admitted before the Supreme Courts of Iowa and Illinois and the US District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Iowa. His community leadership includes service with local chambers, foundations, civic organizations, and the DeWitt Police Foundation. He brings practical judgment, public-service experience, and a broad legal perspective to each matter.
