David L. Van Slyke

David L. Van Slyke is a partner at Plunkett Cooney and managing partner of its Columbus, Ohio office, with an additional Indianapolis office listing. He co-leads the firm’s Real Estate Litigation & Title Insurance Practice Group and serves on its Board of Directors. His practice covers general litigation, title insurance litigation, and banking and finance law. He represents insurers, lenders, insured property owners, and corporate clients in disputes involving commercial and residential property.

Van Slyke received a J.D., magna cum laude, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2004 and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Baldwin-Wallace College in 2001. While in law school, he served as managing editor of the Cleveland State Law Review. His education and editorial experience provided a basis for detailed legal writing and analysis, important to his work with insurance policies, real estate records, contract obligations, and appellate litigation.

Van Slyke handles escrow defalcation claims, title coverage questions, closing protection letters, lien priority issues, mortgage disputes, foreclosures, commercial loan workouts, and receiverships. He also represents parties in lease, easement, pipeline, and property purchase disputes. His experience spans pleading, discovery, motions, trial proceedings, and appellate briefing. Representative work includes litigation concerning fraudulent loan disbursements, mortgage repurchase agreements, and the enforcement of property rights.

David L. Van Slyke has delivered professional presentations on title insurance and real estate litigation and contributed to publications on Ohio real estate law. He was recognized as an Ohio Rising Star in banking from 2015 through 2017. His leadership and litigation practice bring together insurance coverage analysis, real estate transactions, and commercial dispute resolution. He helps clients evaluate contested property interests and pursue practical responses to financial and contractual problems.
