David Joyce is a Maine litigation attorney at Brann & Isaacson with extensive courtroom experience in investigations, public sector matters, and complex lawsuits and disputes. He previously served as a federal prosecutor for 20 years, leading hundreds of grand jury investigations and first-chairing more than a dozen trials. He represents clients in matters requiring investigative judgment, trial preparation, and knowledge of federal enforcement, drawing on his experience with corporate offenses, fraud, embezzlement, and complex criminal cases.
David earned his DrPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, where he joined the Order of the Coif. He also earned an M.A. in Marine Policy from the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science and a B.A. in Psychology from Williams College. His multidisciplinary education supports his work involving complex investigations, policy matters, and litigation.
David began his government career with the Justice Department’s Environmental Crimes Section in Washington, DC. He investigated and prosecuted offenses involving corporations and individuals, including major environmental incidents. He later served with the US Attorney’s Office, where he handled complex criminal matters involving fraud, embezzlement, illegal gambling, child exploitation, narcotics trafficking, and other serious offenses. His federal service also included mentoring prosecutors and providing ethics guidance as Senior Litigation Counsel.
David Joyce is admitted in Maine and before federal courts, including the US District Court for Maine and multiple US Courts of Appeals. He also served as a law clerk to US District Judge Gene Carter. His professional background includes Title IX hearing officer and decision-maker certification through ATIXA. He brings clients investigative experience, trial judgment, ethics knowledge, and federal enforcement insight when addressing demanding litigation and public sector matters.
