David Denninger

David Denninger is a seasoned criminal defense attorney known for a precise, trial-focused approach to serious criminal matters. His legal work centers on defending individuals accused of offenses ranging from DWI and assault to complex felony and homicide cases, where strategic preparation and courtroom skill are essential to protecting constitutional rights.

David earned his Juris Doctor at Wake Forest University School of Law. He completed his Juris Doctor studies with a strong foundation in criminal law, trial advocacy, and legal ethics.

David began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney, serving for ten years in Buncombe and McDowell Counties. During that time, he prosecuted thousands of cases in the District and Superior Courts. His work included extensive courtroom litigation, motion practice, and jury trials across a wide range of criminal charges.

David later served for several years as Buncombe County’s dedicated sex crimes prosecutor. In that role, he handled sensitive and high-stakes cases involving rape, child pornography, and violent crimes against children. This experience sharpened his ability to evaluate complex evidence and anticipate prosecutorial strategies from an insider’s perspective.

David also brings disciplined leadership experience from his service in the United States Army. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through Army ROTC, he graduated first in his class of 341 officers from the Basic Officer Leadership Course. He deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and concluded service as a Captain and Company Commander.

David Denninger applies his combined background as a former prosecutor and combat veteran to criminal defense with focus and clarity. His recognition from General David Petraeus for defending a Forward Operating Base during an insurgent attack reflects decisive leadership, a quality he brings to every case while safeguarding the rights of the accused.
