About
David A. Kazen is the founder and lead attorney of Kazen Family Law & Divorce Lawyers in Austin, Texas. His practice focuses exclusively on family law, including divorce, child custody, child support, property division, adoption, interstate family-law issues, and alternative dispute resolution. Kazen also handles high-asset and complex family matters, helping clients understand their rights, evaluate available options, and develop practical strategies for resolving disputes involving children, finances, and important family relationships.
Kazen earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1995 after receiving a B.A. cum laude in Psychology from Texas Tech University in 1991. His legal education and psychology background provide a useful foundation for family law matters that often involve both complex legal questions and sensitive interpersonal concerns. This training supports his ability to analyze disputed issues, communicate clearly with clients, and address the financial and personal considerations that frequently arise in divorce and custody proceedings.
Kazen has practiced family law for nearly three decades and has handled matters involving divorce, custody and support modifications, property division, paternity, adoption, premarital and postmarital agreements, and collaborative law. Earlier in his career, he practiced with Minter, Joseph & Thornhill, P.C., Hilgers & Watkins, P.C., and Brown McCarroll, L.L.P. His experience includes both negotiated and contested family-law matters, allowing him to guide clients through settlement discussions, collaborative processes, and litigation when court intervention is necessary.
David A. Kazen has been Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2006. He is a member of several family-law organizations and has served as past president of the Collaborative Law Group of Austin. He combines extensive family-law experience with practical judgment and a client-focused approach, helping individuals and families address difficult legal issues while working toward solutions that protect their rights, property, and long-term interests.
