About
Dave Gormley is a partner at Andrews, Bongar, Gormley & Clagett and leads the firm’s bankruptcy and real estate departments. He has practiced bankruptcy law since the 1990s, offering more than three decades of experience navigating the federal bankruptcy system before and after major legal changes in 2005.
Dave earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1992 and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, completed in 1988. He is admitted to practice in Maryland state courts and all federal courts, including the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Throughout his career, Dave has handled thousands of bankruptcy cases and developed extensive experience in foreclosure defense. After the 2008 financial crisis, he worked actively to stop foreclosures across Southern Maryland, helping families in Waldorf, Lexington Park, and nearby communities remain in their homes during challenging economic times.
Dave has seen nearly every issue related to bankruptcy and foreclosure law. He authored the firm’s Free Legal Guide to Bankruptcy in Maryland and the Free Legal Guide to Stopping Foreclosures, which provide clear, practical information to individuals facing serious financial decisions.
Dave joined Andrews, Bongar, Gormley & Clagett in 2002 after many years with another local law firm, where he handled a large volume of bankruptcy, family law, and criminal cases. A lifelong Maryland resident, he is a familiar presence in courts throughout Southern Maryland.
In addition to his legal work, Dave Gormley has served as a presenter at the College of Southern Maryland, appeared on the Southern Maryland Perspectives radio program, and acts as a continuing education instructor. He is also a member of the Southern Maryland Association of Realtors.
