Daniel A. Cantor

Daniel A. Cantor is a partner at Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C., with a practice centered on complex litigation and environmental disputes. He represents clients in allocation proceedings, indemnity and contract disputes, environmental matters, antitrust matters, property damage claims, and intellectual property disputes. His work includes class actions, business loss claims, toxic tort matters, and disputes involving environmental liabilities in courts, administrative tribunals, and arbitrations.

Cantor earned his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, graduating summa cum laude. He received his B.A. from Bates College with high honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. His academic training provided a strong foundation in legal analysis, advocacy, and problem-solving. That background supports his work on complex disputes involving detailed factual records, expert testimony, contractual obligations, and regulatory issues.

Cantor has handled significant litigation and transactional matters involving environmental risk and commercial claims. He served as lead counsel for BP on business and individual claims arising from the Deepwater Horizon spill. He represented Major League Baseball in trial and appellate proceedings involving statutory royalty allocation. His experience includes environmental indemnity disputes, Superfund remediation matters, contaminated-property transactions, risk-transfer arrangements, environmental insurance, and class action settlements. He previously clerked for Judge Christine O.C. Miller of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Daniel A. Cantor has received recognition for environmental litigation, sports work, and pro bono service. Lawdragon named him among its Green 500 Leaders in Environmental Law for environmental litigation in 2024. Sports Business Journal named him a Power Player in 2021. He received the District of Columbia Bar Association’s Laura N. Rinaldi Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award in 2021.
