About
Cynthia F. Newton is Of Counsel at Thomas, Coon, Newton & Frost in Portland, Oregon. Her practice focuses on personal injury and wrongful death matters, including medical negligence, workplace injuries involving general contractors and third parties, premises liability, and cases involving bicyclists and pedestrians. Cynthia has tried and arbitrated a wide range of injury and death actions and brings decades of civil litigation experience to matters involving serious physical harm and complex liability questions.
Cynthia earned a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1987, where she received a Jurisprudence Award in Civil Advocacy and wrote for the International & Comparative Law Review. She also earned a B.A. from Washington State University. Her legal training and early exposure to trial advocacy provided a strong foundation for evaluating evidence, working with experts, and presenting injury cases in court and arbitration.
Cynthia began her legal career in California and practiced at the Walkup firm, handling medical negligence, premises liability, construction, and products liability cases. She also gained experience on the defense side at an insurance defense firm and at Southern Pacific Railroad. After joining her current firm in 2004, she developed a practice representing injured people in Oregon. Her background on both sides of civil cases informs her approach to investigation, negotiation, and trial strategy.
Cynthia F. Newton is admitted in California, Oregon, and Washington and serves as a volunteer mediator for Multnomah and Washington County Small Claims Courts. She has participated in Multnomah Bar Association committees and previously chaired the Oregon State Bar Uniform Civil Jury Instructions Committee. Her combination of trial experience, medical-negligence work, and service to the legal community supports a careful, practical approach to serious injury and wrongful death litigation.
