Crystal J. McDonough

Crystal J. McDonough is the founder and managing attorney of McDonough Law Group, where she advises businesses on corporate, energy, utility, natural resource, and tax matters. She works with companies of different sizes through formation, growth, operations, and sales and often serves as outside or general counsel. Her practice includes contracts, negotiations, litigation, regulatory issues, renewable energy, oil and gas, land use, and strategic tax planning.

McDonough earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Loyola Marymount University Law School and a J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law. She also holds a master’s degree in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Wyoming, a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Northern Colorado, and an A.A. in Piano Performance from Cottey College. Her multidisciplinary education supports legal work involving business, energy policy, regulation, taxation, and natural resources.

Before practicing law, McDonough spent about 15 years in the professional world and owned a business, giving her firsthand insight into operational and commercial challenges. She has represented clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Wyoming Public Service Commission, Colorado Public Utilities Commission, and state and federal courts. Her energy experience also includes PURPA matters, renewable energy siting, wind energy policy, and work connected to utilities, oil and gas, real estate, and construction.

Crystal J. McDonough is licensed in Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming and in federal courts in Colorado and Wyoming. She has held leadership roles with the Energy Bar Association and has contributed to energy and natural resource policy through research, writing, and presentations. Her recognitions include Denver Business Journal’s Top Women in Energy and Law Week Colorado honors for oil and gas practice. She combines business experience, regulatory knowledge, and practical counsel to help clients manage complex legal and commercial issues.
