Cody W. Dowden is a Bentonville criminal defense attorney who represents people facing criminal charges. He draws on prosecutorial experience, trial skills, and clear guidance to help clients understand their options. His work includes plea negotiations, bench trials, and jury trials, with a focus on protecting jobs, freedom, and rights.
Cody earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science from Sam Houston State University. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law, laying a strong foundation in criminal defense, research, and courtroom advocacy.
Cody worked as an attorney for the Department of Finance and Administration before becoming a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. He handled district court misdemeanors, juvenile court matters, and select circuit court appeals. For four-and-a-half years, he prosecuted cases ranging from speeding tickets to Class Y felonies and many charges in between.
Cody began practicing criminal defense in Northwest Arkansas in 2012. He has represented clients across the region, handled thousands of cases, and tried hundreds. He uses knowledge gained as a prosecutor to fight for clients through careful planning, strong arguments, and steady courtroom preparation every day.
Cody was named to the National Criminal Justice and National Political Science Honor Societies while at Sam Houston. In law school, he joined the traveling Moot Court team, became Chairman of the Moot Court Board, and won Best Petitioner’s Brief and Best Oralist during one national competition for his work.
Cody W. Dowden also trains, teaches, and studies to improve his defense work. He has led seminars for lawyers and judges on domestic violence convictions, firearms rights, and DWI defense. He has guest lectured at the University of Arkansas School of Law and remains focused on strong client service.
