Clif Jefferis

Clif Jefferis is an equity partner at Cosmich Simmons & Brown in Jackson with a litigation practice shaped by backgrounds in business, geology, and environmental engineering. His listed practice areas include Asbestos & Talc, Construction Litigation, Environmental Litigation, General Litigation, Premises Liability, Product Liability, and Toxic Tort. He has served as national coordinating counsel for corporate clients for more than 20 years and also handles local and regional defense matters.

Jefferis earned a J.D. in 1999 from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College with an Environmental and Natural Resources Certificate. He earned a B.B.A. in Management and a B.A. in Philosophy, cum laude, from Millsaps College in 1993 and completed additional geology coursework. Before law school, he worked as an environmental consultant on contaminated-site investigation and remediation issues involving companies and government agencies.

Jefferis has represented manufacturers, suppliers, premises owners, and other companies in asbestos, silica, product-liability, construction, environmental, and commercial matters around the country. His work as coordinating counsel has included corporate investigations, due diligence, defense strategy, and management of local-counsel networks handling large inventories of claims. He also has experience with arbitration, complex construction claims, real-estate disputes, professional-negligence matters, contract drafting, and general commercial litigation.

Clif Jefferis is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, has been rated by Mid-South Super Lawyers for more than a decade, and holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He participates in the Defense Research Institute and the Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association. His technical environmental background and long-term coordinating-counsel experience help him organize complex factual records, develop consistent defense strategies, and manage litigation that may span multiple jurisdictions and categories of alleged exposure or product liability.
