About
Christopher Stombaugh is an electrocution and trial lawyer who handles serious personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Stombaugh’s work includes cases involving electrical utilities, construction accidents, truck crashes, nursing home negligence, automotive defects, and other matters involving severe injury or death. He also teaches trial advocacy and uses focus groups, mock juries, and other preparation methods to identify persuasive case themes and strengthen the presentation of complex evidence before judges and juries.
Stombaugh earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville and a J.D., with honors, from Drake University School of Law. He is admitted in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin and before the US Supreme Court and the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. His education and multistate litigation background support a trial practice involving technically difficult facts, expert testimony, product and utility issues, and the preparation required for high-stakes personal injury cases.
Stombaugh has obtained substantial verdicts in cases involving automotive defects, wrongful death, construction-site safety, electrical utility injuries, and other serious claims. His reported results include a $102.6 million verdict against General Motors, a $40 million wrongful death verdict, and other multimillion-dollar outcomes. He has taught at the Trial Lawyers College and speaks at national legal conferences on trial advocacy, depositions, jury selection, opening statements, and techniques for preparing and presenting cases effectively.
Christopher Stombaugh is a past president of the Wisconsin Association for Justice and has been selected to the Super Lawyers list for many years. Stombaugh is also a member of the Wisconsin Association for Justice, Iowa Association for Justice, and American Association for Justice. His practice combines courtroom experience, teaching, and focused trial preparation to represent people and families in complex injury litigation where technical evidence, liability disputes, and the presentation of damages can determine the outcome.
