About
Chris Short is a partner at Kiefer & Kiefer in New Orleans whose practice includes personal injury, insurance defense, and civil litigation. He represents injured individuals as well as insurers and has experience with contested matters involving liability, damages, and trial preparation. His broader litigation background also includes criminal and domestic matters. This range gives him perspective on how different parties evaluate evidence, risk, negotiation, and courtroom strategy.
Short earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Tulane University Law School, where he served as Senior Associate Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. He also attended California State University Maritime Academy. His academic background supports careful legal writing, research, and analysis, while his maritime studies provide useful context for cases involving vessels, offshore activity, transportation, and technical issues that may arise in Louisiana civil litigation.
Short previously served as a law clerk to Judge Raymond Steib Jr. of Louisiana’s 24th Judicial District Court and later practiced with a New Orleans litigation firm. His experience included work connected to serious civil matters arising from the Deepwater Horizon disaster. He has since represented both insurers and injured plaintiffs, handled trials and oral arguments, and worked on disputes requiring detailed factual development and strong courtroom preparation.
Chris Short also serves on the board of The Pro Bono Project and has provided pro bono assistance in criminal, domestic, landlord-tenant, and business disputes. His practice combines plaintiff and defense experience with judicial-clerkship training and community service. Short helps clients assess claims, prepare evidence, understand litigation risk, and pursue practical strategies in personal injury, insurance, and other civil matters that may require negotiation or trial.
