About
Charles K. Purcell is Of Counsel at Rodey Law Firm in Albuquerque and a member of the firm’s Health Law and Medical Malpractice Defense and Coverage/Bad Faith practice groups. His litigation practice includes tort and insurance disputes, media law, personal injury, products liability, medical and legal malpractice, civil rights, appellate matters, and general litigation. He represents clients in cases requiring close analysis of liability, coverage, professional standards, constitutional issues, and appellate strategy.
Charles earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, and a B.A. from the University of Virginia, with highest distinction. He served on the Harvard Law Review and was Executive Editor of the journal. After law school, he clerked for Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. This training supports rigorous legal writing, appellate analysis, and complex litigation strategy.
Charles has built a broad litigation practice across professional liability, insurance coverage and bad faith, medical malpractice defense, First Amendment and media disputes, civil rights claims, products liability, personal injury, and appellate matters. His federal appellate clerkship and long experience in contested cases support work that often requires detailed motion practice, legal research, preservation of issues for appeal, and strategic coordination between trial and appellate positions.
Charles K. Purcell has earned an AV peer rating and repeated recognition from Best Lawyers in America across appellate practice, commercial litigation, legal malpractice defense, First Amendment litigation, and medical malpractice defense. He has received the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government’s William S. Dixon First Amendment Award and the New Mexico ACLU’s Cooperating Attorney of the Year Award. His professional service includes leadership with open-government and access-to-justice organizations.
