Cecilia Oseguera

Cecilia Oseguera is a North Carolina District Court judge serving Mecklenburg County in Seat 18. Her work involves family matters, civil disputes, criminal cases, and courtroom decisions requiring fairness, impartiality, and respect for all parties. She brings judicial experience, public defense work, and community involvement to the bench, helping maintain public trust through careful application of the law and consistent courtroom leadership.

Cecilia earned a J.D. from Whittier Law School. She also earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an LL.M. in Financial Services Compliance from Seton Hall University School of Law. Her education supports legal analysis, courtroom management, written decisions, and evaluation of complex facts in criminal, civil, family, compliance, and procedural matters.

Cecilia was appointed to the District Court bench in 2022 by Governor Roy Cooper and later elected by Mecklenburg County voters. Before becoming a judge, she served 17 years as an Assistant Federal Public Defender, handling complex federal cases with trial and appellate issues. She also served as a substitute Federal Magistrate Judge in the Western District of North Carolina.

Her professional involvement includes the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, Mecklenburg County Bar Board of Directors, and past leadership with the Mecklenburg County Hispanic Latino Lawyers Bar.
