Casey Carruth-Hinchey

Casey Carruth-Hinchey is an associate at Shaftel Delman in Anchorage and focuses on estate planning, related tax planning, and tax reporting. Casey helps clients develop estate plans that reflect personal goals while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens. Her work includes wills, powers of attorney, health care directives, community property agreements, and a range of revocable and irrevocable trusts tailored to different planning needs.

Casey earned a J.D. from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and a bachelor’s degree in art history with a minor in classics from Pomona College. In law school, she served as a primary editor on the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy and participated in the Intellectual Property & Nonprofit Organizations Clinic. Her academic work strengthened research, drafting, and analytical skills used in planning matters.

Casey regularly drafts community property trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, and other specialized estate planning documents. She has experience implementing complex gift and sale transactions and devotes a significant part of her practice to preparing gift tax and estate tax returns. Her Alaska legal experience also includes internships with federal and state judges and the Municipality of Anchorage Legal Department.

Casey Carruth-Hinchey serves as Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Estate Planning and Probate Law Section of the Alaska Bar Association. Casey is also active in the Anchorage Estate Planning Council, Anchorage Bar Association, and Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers. Her combination of drafting, tax reporting, and professional leadership supports thoughtful estate plans designed around each client’s family, property, and long-term objectives.
