About
Carsen Nies is an associate in Stoll Berne’s litigation group in Portland. Her work includes complex litigation, securities fraud, business disputes, class actions, and appellate matters. She is part of the firm’s wildfire litigation team representing victims of the 2020 Oregon fires against PacifiCorp and participates in the team representing the State of Delaware in PCB litigation against Monsanto. She has presented briefing and argument before the Oregon Court of Appeals and works on matters involving significant factual and legal complexity.
Carsen earned a J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 2022, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Seattle Journal for Social Justice and participated in moot court. She received a B.S., cum laude, in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Puget Sound in 2017 and completed a minor in Spanish. She is admitted to the Oregon State Bar and the US District Court for the District of Oregon.
Carsen served as a judicial law clerk with the Oregon Supreme Court, including work for Justice Stephen K. Bushong and the court’s central staff division. During law school, she served as a legislative extern for the ACLU of Washington, a certified law clerk with the Federal Public Defender in Portland, and an advocacy intern with Columbia Legal Services. These roles developed experience with appellate analysis, public-interest advocacy, criminal defense issues, and complex questions of state law.
Carsen Nies is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association, Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, and Oregon State Bar Uniform Civil Jury Instructions Committee. Her litigation experience includes wildfire claims, PCB litigation, securities fraud, business disputes, and appellate advocacy. Her judicial clerkship and public-interest background strengthen a practice that requires careful legal research, persuasive briefing, and close attention to complex factual records in state and federal litigation.
