Brian L. McDermott

Brian L. McDermott is the office managing principal of Jackson Lewis P.C. in Indianapolis. His practice focuses on workplace training and representation of employers in labor and employment litigation. He has spent more than 25 years representing private and public employers in individual, class, and collective actions involving federal and state employment laws, workplace policies, restrictive covenants, and related disputes.

Brian earned a J.D. with Distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1991 and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Loras College in 1988. His education supports a practice requiring close analysis of employment statutes, workplace documentation, litigation strategy, and appellate issues. He is admitted in Indiana and Iowa and before multiple federal courts, including the US Supreme Court and federal appellate courts.

Brian represents employers in state and federal courts, labor arbitrations, and proceedings before agencies including the EEOC and NLRB. He also counsels employers on litigation avoidance, workplace training, handbooks, personnel policies, employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and severance agreements. His representative work includes appellate victories, discrimination and wage-hour dismissals, summary judgments, and successful defense of employers in labor and benefits disputes.

Brian L. McDermott has received continuing recognition in labor and employment law, including listings in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, and Indiana Super Lawyers. He is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and has received the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Samuel C. Schlosser Volunteer of the Year award.
