About
Bradley M. Marten is the founder of Marten Law in Seattle and an environmental attorney with decades of experience in complex litigation and environmental damage matters. His work involves cleanup and cost recovery, natural resource damage claims, permitting, enforcement, and environmental issues affecting development. He represents clients across industries including mining, manufacturing, refining, transportation, food processing, agriculture, and financial services on disputes and transactions with significant environmental consequences.
Bradley earned a B.A. from Cornell University in 1975, an M.A. from Yale University in 1977, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1981. This academic foundation supports his work at the intersection of environmental regulation, litigation, and technical disputes. He is admitted to practice in Washington and the District of Columbia. His experience includes matters involving federal agencies and regulatory programs across the United States.
His representative matters include work as co-counsel in litigation arising from the Exxon Valdez and Deepwater Horizon oil spills. He has served as lead or common counsel at Superfund sites in more than fifteen states, sometimes addressing disputes involving over one hundred parties. He has also represented developers on environmental issues at major projects and defended companies in permitting and enforcement matters.
Bradley M. Marten previously served as president of the American College of Environmental Lawyers and sits on the Environmental Law Institute’s board of directors. He chairs the institute’s GreenTech conference and has been recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, and other publications. His leadership and litigation experience inform his approach to resolving high-value claims, coordinating complicated proceedings, and helping clients manage environmental obligations.
