About
Bart Daniel is a partner with Nelson Mullins in Charleston and Columbia and a veteran trial lawyer whose practice includes complex commercial litigation, White Collar Defense & Government Investigations, securities enforcement, antitrust, healthcare investigations, and qui tam matters. He also serves as co-chair of the firm’s white collar criminal defense and government investigations practice. Daniel represents clients in matters involving government scrutiny, internal investigations, alleged fraud, regulatory issues, and high-stakes civil or criminal disputes.
Daniel earned a B.A. from The Citadel in 1977 and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1980. His public-service career included work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Economic Crime Unit. He later served as U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina from 1989 to 1992 after nomination by President George H.W. Bush, developing extensive federal investigative and trial experience.
Daniel has prosecuted and defended cases involving securities fraud, antitrust issues, customs fraud, healthcare fraud, bank fraud, government contracting fraud, and tax crimes. As U.S. Attorney, he led the prosecution of Operation Lost Trust, a major public-corruption investigation that resulted in convictions of state legislators, lobbyists, and others. His experience on both sides of government enforcement gives him substantial perspective when advising clients facing investigations, subpoenas, potential charges, internal reviews, or related civil litigation.
Bart Daniel has held national leadership among former federal prosecutors and has received professional recognition for white collar and commercial litigation. His practice combines first-chair trial experience, government service, investigative work, and defense advocacy. By helping companies and individuals assess enforcement risk, respond to investigations, develop factual records, and prepare for litigation or trial, he provides seasoned guidance in matters where legal, reputational, and business consequences can be significant.
