About

Andrew P. Cornell is a Cambridge, Massachusetts family law attorney who has practiced in the Commonwealth since 1994. He concentrates in all aspects of family law and has litigated hundreds of contested family cases. His experience includes complex child custody disputes and matters involving division of significant marital assets, including real estate holdings and business interests. He emphasizes expertise, experience, and thorough preparation as tools for avoiding unnecessarily bruising and costly legal battles when a practical resolution is possible.

Andrew earned a J.D. from New England School of Law, where he made the Dean’s List and served as Lead Editor of the New England Law Review. A current supplemental attorney record lists a B.A. from Hampshire College. He later returned to New England Law as an adjunct professor teaching family law and trial practice. His combination of legal study, law review work, courtroom experience, and teaching supports a practice centered on contested domestic relations matters and careful trial preparation.

Andrew has represented clients in hundreds of contested family law cases and has obtained positive results in complex custody matters and disputes involving significant marital assets. His public-service work includes mentoring lawyers through the Journey to Safety program, which assists survivors of domestic abuse in family law cases. He has served as a volunteer attorney and mentor with the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Women’s Bar Foundation, and DeNovo Center for Justice and Healing, extending his family law experience to access-to-justice work.

Andrew P. Cornell has received several awards for pro bono and access-to-justice service, including the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s Adams Pro Bono Publico Award, the Boston Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award, and the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award.
