About
Andrew C. Nelson is an associate at Hawley Troxell in Boise, Idaho, and a member of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation and Litigation practice groups. His work involves contested matters requiring careful factual review, legal research, and courtroom preparation. He brings experience from judicial and government roles that exposed him to civil rights litigation, consumer protection issues, and the internal processes public agencies use to evaluate claims and legal responsibilities.
Nelson earned a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2021 and a B.A. in Political Science & Pre-Law from Buena Vista University in 2017. After law school, he served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable John P. Schlegelmilch in Nevada’s Third Judicial District Court. His education and clerkship work provided a foundation in legal analysis, court procedure, case management, and the preparation of matters for judicial decision.
Nelson later joined the Nevada Attorney General’s office as a Deputy Attorney General, representing the state in cases brought under 42 U.S.C. §1983. In 2024, he returned to Idaho and served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Idaho Attorney General’s office, where he primarily reviewed consumer complaints under the Idaho Consumer Protection Act. He is admitted in Idaho and Nevada and in the federal district courts for both states.
Andrew C. Nelson uses his clerkship and public-sector litigation background in a practice focused on workers’ compensation and litigation. His experience reviewing claims for government agencies and defending the state in federal civil rights cases gives him familiarity with evidence, procedural requirements, and the evaluation of disputed allegations. He helps clients address contested legal matters with organized case preparation, attention to governing law, and an understanding of both courtroom and agency perspectives.
